Frequently Asked Questions: Three components are required to display a web page to potential customers. First, you need a domain name or address where your visitors can find you. Second, you need a web site. A web site is a group of documents, photos, and other files which are formatted so that web browsers can read them. Finally, you need to put these documents on a web server. A web server is a computer that is hooked up to the internet 24/7 using software that is specifically designed to manage web sites, mail, and other internet activity. The web server is visited by many visitors doing many tasks at any one time and so it must be both powerful and redundant.
A domain name is like a postal address. People type in a word formatted domain name and computers then translate it into a numeric address. Registration is required because someone has to keep track of all the addresses on the internet.
A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) identifies a specific address typed into the browser window. It is a combination of a domain name and other identifiers that instruct the web server on what to display.
A web site is a group of documents, photos, and other file types that are formatted so that browsers can read them. It contains Javascript and HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) files that display and layout the web site. It will have jpg, gif, and png image files which are the only image formats recognized by most browsers. PDF files are also part of a web site and will be displayed in Adobe Acrobat when opened through a browser. Depending on the type of interactivity, your web site will have scripts which tell the browser what to do with information provided by the user.
A web server is a computer that is hooked up to the internet 24/7 using software that is specifically designed to manage web sites, mail, and other internet activity. It directs request for a domain name to the right web site files, it routes incoming and outgoing mail to the proper recipient and it maintains the flow of data between the users' web browser and information stored on the computer.
I can create most any kind of design, from a simple personal basic site to a more complex business vision.
First, I'll listen to your needs to determine what you want to accomplish on the web site. Second, I will make some minor suggestions and recommendations to further explore your needs. Next, I'll do some research to find the best solution for your web site design. I will ask you to send me the URLs of the sites you like. Then, I'll ask you to provide some basic recommendations for your site such as a name for your domain, colors, themes, etc. Finally, I will put together a final recommendation which lists web pages, functionality, and features to be approved by you.
Yes. I can easily create custom graphics and logos for your site. As you can see on my website, creativity is what I do.
Yes. I can provide simple sounds that interact with the user as they travel through the web site. I can stream large audio files like MP3s for song playback. I do not recommend using large sound files for interactive display on your web site unless it is done through Flash. Large audio files take up a lot of bandwidth and therefore take a lot of time to download.
